on vis island we have a variety of rideable terrain, allowing you to explore the heart of the island. when arriving to us at wearactive the lure of the sea draws everyones attention to the kayaks and paddleboards. the kayaking is wonderful but so is the cycling! after one day biking, everyone is super enthusiastic about the ride. relishing the chance to explore other parts of vis island and appreciate the inland scenery. we have the option of single track biking, challenging off road routes, or staying on the quiet road heading down to the fishing village of komiza. we also can split the groups if everyone has a different biking preference. for some, the challenge to bike to komiza is enough, for others cyclists they want to do a full loop of the island. we have had guests wake up early to try to break the island biking record and we have had toddlers in the bike seat giggling with joy as they prod their parents to peddle faster! one of the more challenging rides is from the highest point on the island, mount hum back to sea level on old dalmatian stone walls, off road tracks and through vineyards. we provide all bikes and helmets for your safety. the bikes are constantly serviced by ourselves and we replace bikes annually to maintain an excellent ‘crew’. the bikes we use are either trek or cube , hard tail mountain bikes. looking forward to sharing the terrain with you in the future! read more sat 12 may 2018 homemade limoncello, the traditional wearactive vis way.. when life gives you lemons, a friend that produces grappa and a balcony that shouts out its summer, then you just have to make limoncello! we have a lemon tree that produces an abundance of fresh organic lemons twice a year. we are always looking for ways to use as many of the lemons as possible. making our own sweet tasting alcohol seems obvious. it may seem an italian drink not a croatian drink but those rules do not apply either when you eat a pizza in vis town or an ice cream in komiza. it's all about the adriatic sea and the sunshine. there are lots of recipes out there for making homemade limoncello, but due to the time it takes for the flavour to develop, we would suggest trying to get it right the first time. for your ingredients you just need lemons, alcohol such as grappa or vodka and sugar. the difference in a good and a great limoncello is the quality of your lemons and the amount of sugar you use. homemade limoncello: this will produce 3 half litre bottles. it takes about 2 hours to prepare and 2 months to make it's magic. ingredients: 12 organic lemons 1000ml grappa or 100% proof vodka 300grams sugar directions: peel or zest the lemons, making sure to just get the outermost peel and none of the white pith. place the peel in a large storage jar that can be sealed shut and cover with the alcohol. leave in a dark cool place for 4 weeks. strain the lemons through a fine mesh into a second large storage jar. combine sugar with 700ml of water into a saucepan over a medium heat and simmer until the sugar has dissolved. remove from the heat, let it cool, then add it to your lemon alcohol. leave again in a dark place for 4 weeks. filter the lemon alcohol one more time using a coffee filter paper and pour into your 3 half litre storage jars. boom, once cooled in the freezer for a few hours, you have limoncello! lemon’s good for the digestion apparently. 24 comments tue 01 may 2018 cliff diving on vis island read more fri 20 apr 2018 stiniva bay, island of vis the once hidden bay of stiniva, vis island... plenty has recently been written about stiniva, on the croatian island of vis.. it’s undoubtably beautiful. there’s a special aura when you first enter this hidden bay. stiniva is the perfect place to immerse yourself within natural croatian beauty. it has however become busy, really busy! an increase in nautical tourism from the island of hvar and from split on the dalmatian mainland, has changed the way with which most tourists experience stiniva. speed boats full of expectant tourists buzz constantly into the once quiet cove. selfie sticks have replaced snorkels. the quiet respectful visitors have been replaced by muscle bound guys attempting to climb the rock face and manically demonstrate a display of manhood. this invasion of speedboats will hopefully be controlled in the future, but for now there are still a few ways to continually enjoy the beauty of stiniva bay. follow our advice when visiting stiniva and hopefully you can escape the crowds. go early.. the speed boats start arriving after 10.30. before that time you will only have to share the bay with a few respectful travellers and some swimmers from the yachts that have anchored overnight. go late… after the bay has lost it’s sun and the shade covers the pebbles, the speed boats leave. this is generally after 4pm. hiking down to the bay on the single track requires a good pair of shoes and a supply of water. the reward is an early evening swim and then the quiet and calmness of being able to chill out in the shade. enter by kayak… this is our favourite wa y to experience the south coast of vis island. at wearactive , we love to take guests to stiniva but now we prefer to arrive early with a picnic breakfast or we wait until september when the crowds start to disappear from the island. arrival to the hidden cove becomes an adventure on the kayak, with entering the high cliffs of stiniva the reward. please try not to share this information with too many people, as we like be a little bit selfish when it comes to this unspoilt island!
